A Modern Coastal Haven Above Bermagui Blue Pools
This clifftop retreat by Winter Architecture replaces a long-loved weatherboard shack with a refined yet informal beach house. Designed as three interconnected pavilions wrapped in timber, the home balances privacy with openness, forming fluid outdoor spaces that move with the sun and sea breeze.
The house is deeply rooted in its coastal environment—weathered timber cladding, soft brick tones, and dune-inspired landscaping merge it into the terrain. Sliding timber screens and shallow façade shifts bring rhythm and lightness, transforming the strict geometry into something relaxed and familiar.
Materials echo the beach below—sanded neutrals, warm wood, and tactile finishes ground the interiors in calm. Whether gathering in the open pavilions or retreating into private corners, the home offers a nuanced response to coastal living: robust, rhythmic, and deeply sensory.
