Set in the countryside outside Madison, Georgia, this rustic modern barn house balances restoration character with modern livability. Designed by Southern Landscape Designs in collaboration with Liz Williams Interiors, the home was conceived as a long-term retreat that could evolve from weekend use into a full-time residence.

Rather than recreating a traditional cabin, the design leans into barn architecture as a structural reference. The exterior keeps a simple agricultural form, wrapped in board-and-batten wood siding with a stone base, a tin roof, and a muted green entry door that grounds the house in its rural setting.

The interior design layout prioritizes shared living spaces. The kitchen, dining, and living areas flow together without excess partitioning, allowing the home to function comfortably for both family use and gatherings. White walls create a neutral backdrop, while restrained accents of blue, green, and brown add warmth without overpowering the structure.

Private spaces follow the same logic. Bedrooms and bunk rooms are compact but intentional, relying on natural textures, antique furnishings, and simple finishes rather than decorative excess. Bathrooms and utility spaces are designed for durability, reflecting the home’s role as an active countryside retreat.

Outdoor areas extend the house’s function rather than acting as decoration. Covered porches, a firepit, and alfresco dining zones support year-round use and reinforce the home’s connection to the surrounding landscape.
