Chalet with Peaceful Views of the Krkonoše Mountains

Located in the Krkonoše National Park, the Horní Malá Úpa Mountain Chalet by OK PLAN ARCHITECTS blends contemporary comfort with the vernacular character of the Czech highlands.

Clad in charred wood and topped with an anthracite metal roof, the gabled structure draws from traditional Krkonoše forms while integrating modern construction methods and energy-sustainable systems.

The design orients living spaces toward panoramic views of the Úpa River valley and Sněžka peak, framed by expansive glazing. A large fixed window anchors the main living area, creating a visual dialogue between the warm, natural interiors and the surrounding alpine scenery. 

Despite stringent conservation rules, the project incorporates advanced energy solutions, including a geothermal heat pump and photovoltaic panels discreetly set on the rear roof. Built with traditional masonry and timber framing, the chalet embodies both resilience and sensitivity to its setting.

Bedrooms and a compact wellness zone are tucked into the attic, which opens onto a terrace with a heated outdoor tub, reinforcing the chalet’s balance between relaxation and rugged mountain living.
