THYTA House by LASSA Architects Merges Curved Geometry with the Ionian Landscape

by Stefan Gheorghe

Set into the steep slopes of Lefkada, Greece, the THYTA House by LASSA Architects demonstrates how contemporary forms can be embedded into rugged terrain. The residence is defined by sweeping, elliptical geometries that follow the mountain’s curvature, its volumes partly recessed into the hillside to reduce visual impact from the sea. This compositional strategy allows the home to blend with the topography while maintaining panoramic views of the Ionian archipelago.

The design is structured around a central elliptical living space, detached from the slope to create a courtyard that brings light and ventilation into the interior. Above, two circular openings in the planted roof frame olive trees, anchoring the architecture to its Mediterranean context. A wide pergola extends across the façade, shading the glass-fronted living spaces while directing views outward toward the water.

Circulation unfolds along terraced levels cut into the hillside, connecting bedrooms, family areas, and outdoor living zones with loggias, gardens, and a pool. The material palette of stone retaining walls, concrete slabs, and planted roofs reinforces the dialogue between architecture and landscape. Environmental performance is embedded in the design: overhangs, natural ventilation, and the thermal mass of green roofs regulate climate, reducing the home’s energy demands while intensifying its bond with the terrain.
